Introduction

Hello! Welcome to my website!

I'm Arif, currently a Master's student at TU Delft in the Netherlands. I am a trained civil / geotechnical engineer and a researcher. Originally from Indonesia, I've always been deeply intrigued by Seismic Modeling and Seismically Triggered Landslides. This interest has a direct connection to the challenges that Indonesia faces due to frequent earthquakes and landslides.

In 2022, I found myself to be blessed as I was awarded full scholarship funding from The Indonesian Ministry of Finance through LPDP, the Financial Institution for Indonesian Education Endowment Funds. This opportunity has allowed me to pursue my studies here at TU Delft and contribute to finding solutions to these significant issues.

Research and Interests

In the last decades, The Finite Element Method (FEM) has been a de-facto state-of-the-art method for simulating solid and fluid mechanics. Its implementation has been used to design complicated structures and even advanced machines. However, when dealing with landslides, we want to analyze not only the conditions of failure but also the magnitude of the impact if it does happen. To do this, we need large-strain deformation analysis which, unfortunately, the conventional FEM struggled at.

Given the challenges mentioned above, my professional interest is down to the following topics:

  • Material Point Methods (MPM) and other meshfree methods
  • Soil behavior in dynamical systems
  • Wave propagation and off-shore geotechnical structures

That being said, I consider myself as highly inquisitive. Hence, it is common for me to look at other interesting topics and even other majors. Usually, I do this by making small projects which you can check on the Project Page.

About This Site

On this website, I will share my study logs and lecture notes that I have made throughout these years. Considering that this webpage is not peer-reviewed, I will try to put as many references and sources as possible. Though, if you find some mistakes, please kindly tell me through email that you can find here.

Aside from the field of engineering and science, I'll also put some articles and essays that I have made which cover Christian Theology and Philosophy. These are mainly my take on the Sunday services that I follow every week. However, some of them are also reflections from the books that I read.
